The St. Vincent De Paul Conference at our parish is looking for parishioners interested in contacting, visiting, and assessing material need for clients who contact the Society. The time commitment is minimal; the experience is fulfilling; training will be provided. If you are interested, contact Sister Jeremy for details 833-0298 ext 314 or jmidura@stjosephbuffalo.com.
Family Promise of WNY (formerly: Interfaith Hospitality Network) is coming to the end of its renewal and reorganization process. It is an organization dedicated to responding to the needs of homeless families in our community. In the past, our parish collaborated with Trinity Old Lutheran and served as the hosts on the Sundays of their service week. This came out to four Sundays a year. It involved either being at the sight for a four hour period to welcome the families, or providing the lunch or dinner meal for the families; or serving the dinner and then spending the evening; or spending the night.
In order to make a commitment as a parish to the work of Family Promise we need a parish coordinator and a pool of volunteers from St. Joseph University Parish to make a one year commitment (4 times through the year) to this service of outreach. If you are interested in volunteering or for more info, contact Sister Jeremy at 833-0298 ext 314 or jmidura@stjosephbuffalo.com. You can also go on their website: www.IHNGB.org. Hospitality is not a special skill, but the joyful mandate of a just and loving people.
Deadlines & Calendar Dates. The deadline for submitting information for the weekly bulletin is Friday at 3 p.m. for the following weekend. Please submit your info via email if possible to: jmesser@stjosephbuffalo.com. Committee chairs are also reminded that prior to setting meeting dates, you should clear your dates and room locations with the Parish calendar to avoid conflicts. Please call 833-0298 ext. 303 to check the master calendar.
There is a Harmony in Autumn & a Luster in its Sky. Consider enjoying an autumn weekend in New England from Friday, October 1 to Monday, October 4. Visiting Cape Cod, MA; Newport, RI; and Beantown Boston. Tour price is $660 p/p double occupancy. Tour includes: roundtrip flight via Jet Blue, motor coach service throughout the journey, 3 nights hotel, daily breakfast, lobster dinner, tour guides, Cape Cod Canal Cruise, sightseeing tour on Marthas Vineyard, visit to Cape Cod National Seashore, admission to The Breakers and The Marble House in Newport. Detailed trip brochures available in the Community Room or talk to Sr. Jeremy. We have a female parishioner who is looking for a roommate for this trip.
Attention High School Grads & Parents: Catholic Campus Ministry programs want to connect with you as you begin your college career but struggle to do so partly due to privacy laws. Serra International & the Diocesan Office for Youth & Young Adult Ministry created the Campus Connection Program to link incoming students with campus ministry organizations. Youre invited to register with the program here & they will send your contact info to the Catholic Campus ministry or Newman Center at your college or university. Go to www.dobyouth.org & click on the Campus Connection tab or complete a card in the Community Room after Mass.
CHRISTIAN FORMATION:
Religious Education Registration Forms for all programs including Sacramental programs can be found in the Community Room and also on our website: www.stjoesfaith.com.
Considering Becoming Catholic?
Or Know Someone To Invite Who Is Thinking About Becoming Catholic? This may be what you have been waiting for! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process for those who have been previously baptized but never catechized or formally welcomed to the sacraments of initiation. It is also a process for those who want to explore the possibility of becoming Catholic or are ready to enter the Catholic Church. The RCIA is a time to examine more closely the truths of the Catholic faith and discern their meaning for your life. Sessions meet on Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. beginning in September. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Sister Jeremy at 833-0298 ext. 314 or jmidura@stjosephbuffalo.com for an appointment.
Adult Confirmation: Have You Been Confirmed? Why do Catholics need the Sacrament of Confirmation? Confirmation confers upon us special graces and gifts of the Holy Spirit. It can change our lives by increasing and deepening all of the graces we received at baptism. Adults who have been Catholic all of their lives but who have not received the sacrament of Confirmation are invited to join other adults in this part of their faith journey as they prepare to be confirmed. For info, contact Sister Jeremy at 833-0298 ext 314 or jmidura@stjosephbuffalo.com.
Golden and Diamond Anniversaries of Marriage Bishop Kmiec and the Diocese of Buffalo wish to honor couples who will observe their 50th, 60th, and 70th wedding anniversaries during 2010. Couples who wish to participate in this celebration are asked to contact Sister Jeremy at 833-0298 ext 314 or jmidura@stjosephbuffalo.com.

Catholic Social Teaching on the Environment: Modern society will find no solution to the ecological problem unless it takes a serious look at its lifestyle. In many parts of the world, society is given to instant gratification and consumerism while remaining indifferent to the damage which these attitudes cause. Simplicity, moderation, and discipline, as well as spirit of sacrifice, must become part of everyday life, lest all suffer the negative consequences of the careless habits of a few. Pope John Paul II, January 18, 2001
