Prayer and Worship Committee
This group meets bi-monthly to coordinate the details of special parish liturgies, to provide opportunities for a variety of prayer experiences and celebrations, to plan and promote parish-wide programs of a spiritual nature such as retreats and missions, and to implement the recommendations of the diocesan Office of Prayer and Worship.

Liturgical Ministries

 

Altar Servers
These are boys and girls in Grade 4 and older who assist the priest at mass. This ministry consists of several training sessions and a commitment to serve at a weekly parish liturgy on a rotating basis.

Choir
The traditional choir under the direction of Roland Martin ministers at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday liturgy. This group rehearses on Thursday evenings beginning at 7:00 p.m. No audition is necessary.

Contemporary Music Ensemble
The contemporary choir under the interim direction of Harold Harden ministers at the 11:30 a.m. Sunday liturgy. This group rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m.

Children's Liturgy of the Word
At the 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Sunday Masses children are dismissed to hear the Sunday readings from the Children's Lectionary. The readings are then explained in a way which is meaningful to them. Adult volunteers are needed to help with this program on a rotating basis.

Eucharistic Ministers
These are men, women, young adults, and teens who have gone through a one day preparation and training session and who help distribute the Eucharist during mass. Volunteers follow a rotating schedule and serve at a particular mass.

Eucharistic Minister Outreach to the Home Bound
Eucharistic ministers who take Holy Communion to parish members who are elderly or sick and confined to their homes.

Greeters
Consider becoming a greeter serving 15 minutes before mass at the doors of the church. Help extend a welcome to visitors and parish members alike. A friendly smile and a willing heart is all that is needed. This ministry has no age limits. You can volunteer as an individual, a family, or a household. Greet when you can -- no harsh schedules.

Lectors
Readers who proclaim the scriptures at weekend masses. Lectors are scheduled on a rotating basis and for the particular mass time for which they volunteer.

Ushers
Ushers are present to greet people for mass as they arrive. They seat late-comers, select gift bearers for the offertory procession, take up the collection, direct the congregation for the reception of Holy Communion, and distribute bulletins at the end of mass. Men and women, boys and girls, young and old can serve as ushers.

Non-Liturgical Support Ministries
 
Welcome Committee
Committee members rotate attending the three Saturday evening dinners welcoming newly registered parishioners.  They answer questions, introduce new parishioners to the staff, and assist them in becoming actively involved at St. Joseph University Parish.

SACRISTANS:
 
Altar Candles
Volunteers who clean the brass candle holders and replace the used altar candles. Volunteers are assigned for one week each month.

Altar Linens
Volunteers who wash and iron the small linens used during the mass (it does not include the linens which cover the altar). Volunteers are assigned a week on a rotating basis.
